What is Wicking Material?
Wicking fabric pulls moisture from the body to the exterior of the shirt where it can evaporate more easily. Sweat-wicking fabrics are usually made from high-tech polyester blends that has a moisture-absorbing finish. We already know that synthetic materials don't retain moisture like natural fabrics such as cotton do.
Wicking material has the ability to move moisture away from the body and the fabric. This can keep the body dry and cooler, even when the person is sweating.
Wicking fabric is light weight compressed fabric which allows moisture, like sweat, be pulled away from the skin. The more the moister disperses, the quicker it evaporates. Because the sweat evaporates into the air, the clothes are able to dry faster than fabrics like cotton. Therefore, wicking fabric is quick to dry and super soft.
So a moisture-wicking shirt has two jobs:
1) to pull your sweat to the fabric's outer surface and
2) dry rapidly so that your sweat doesn't saturated the fabric.
Summer in Florida is a season of sweat. When our temperatures get so hot, you need to wear clothes that work for you. Wicking shirts will make you be more comfortable, because the fabric touching you skin has a dry feel.
